Modernized ops, new sponsor revenue, and sold-out events for the DC legal community.
The BADC, one of the oldest bar associations in the country, needed to modernize its operations, improve membership engagement, and increase revenue. Established in 1871, the organization was struggling with its business model, a shrinking membership, and inefficiencies in event and operational management. Mark Bohay Consulting (MB) was engaged to grow membership, manage events, and improve day-to-day operations, all while maintaining the organization’s historic legacy.
Moved BADC’s nominations, elections, and awards processes to digital formats. Migrated organizational email to Google Apps and cut recurring costs by $7,000 to $10,000 a year.
Refreshed the website with a modern member-first UX. Introduced auto-renewals and ran targeted engagement campaigns to reactivate lapsed members and reach new ones.
Shifted event management to Eventbrite for cleaner registration, sponsorship purchases, and automated reminders. Turned events into a real revenue engine, not a logistics burden.
Revenue climbed to $323,000 across the engagement, with $209,000 generated from sponsorships alone. Events and membership together became the association’s economic backbone.
39 events successfully managed. 2,631 attendees across the calendar. Attendee experience measurably improved through smoother registration and better event pacing.
Membership grew by 37% in 18 months. Better outreach, better digital tools, and a modern member experience combined to reverse a shrinking membership trend that had persisted for years.
